Secure Information Systems Accreditation Scheme for Information-Processing Service CompaniesThe secure information systems accreditation scheme for information-processing service companies was developed in 1980 (Notification No.342 of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry) for the purpose of promoting the implementation of security measures on information systems among information-processing service companies. Thus it was intended for only centers of information processing service business, and therefore its standard defined detailed matters, especially concerning "physical and environmental security". Under the accreditation scheme, an applicant was first audited by the designated body for the facility criteria in "Computer Systems Security Standards", and then assessed by a bureau of International Trade and Industry for its operational criteria conformance with the standards. Where the applicant successfully finished both of them, the Minister of International Trade and Industry accredited the applicant's center. This scheme had been in effect for about 20 years until 31 March 2001, under which about 200 centers of information processing service companies were accredited.
